La alianza de Fedecocagua con action 365

"The partnership between action 365 and FEDECOCAGUA began exactly 50 years ago. After intensive involvement in development assistance, action 365 had reached the point where it wanted to implement a concrete project that should go beyond the development projects of the time. The aim should support local people on their own path to freedom and independence - to act globally together on an equal footing. The partnership with MISEREOR and FEDECOCAGUA was then started. For several years, the Catholic agency for development cooperation had been accompanying the establishment of cooperative structures for small-scale coffee producers in Guatemala, and now action 365, with its hundreds of teams throughout the country, came in to market the coffee in a new way - and also to make development work in Germany concrete.
In 1973, the first fair trade coffee was introduced in the Netherlands by the S.O.S. Foundation, and sales in Germany started in the same year through action 365. So 1973 is the year of birth of an alternative trading concept for coffee in Germany - based on FEDECOCAGUA's coffee. From then on, action 365 focused on this partnership as an example project of fair trade."
As early as 2022, Aktion 365 planned to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the alliance by implementing a social project in three Fedecocagua cooperatives. This is how the first contacts were made between them and the UGK Foundation. It was decided that Jurik Rockenbach, as the Foundation's representative, would develop proposals during his trip to Guatemala in March 2023.
Finally, two women's projects were selected - running a bakery and keeping laying hens - as well as a health project, more precisely the support of a small clinic run by a cooperative. We believe that the monthly virtual meetings between representatives of action 365 / Fundación UGK and the beneficiaries will show the important role the cooperatives and their cooperative Fedecocagua play for the people in the countryside. As in previous years, we will continue to publish texts and photos relating to these projects on this website.
