Here is a text from the website of the STIFTUNG HAUS der action 365:

 

"Our partnership with Fedecocagua began exactly 50 years ago. After intensive development work, action 365 wanted to implement a concrete project that went beyond the development projects of the time. The aim was to support the local population on their own path to freedom and independence, to act globally, together and on an equal footing. After many discussions with MISEREOR, the partnership with FEDECOCAGUA was initiated. The Catholic agency for development cooperation has been supporting the establishment of cooperative structures for small coffee producers in Guatemala for several years. Here, action 365 joined the alliance to promote the sale of coffee throughout the country and also to implement the German policy of supporting developing countries such as Guatemala.

 

In 1973, the first coffee was imported into the Netherlands by the S.O.S. Foundation - and in the same year, action 365 began selling it in Germany. 1973 is thus the year in which a fair, alternative trade concept for coffee was introduced in Germany, based on coffee from Fedecocagua. Since then, action 365 has supported this cooperative association as an exemplary fair trade project."

 

The idea of action 365 was to celebrate the fiftieth anniversary of the partnership in 2023 with the implementation of social projects in some cooperatives of Fedecocagua. This is how the first contacts were made between them and the UGK Foundation. It was decided that Jurik, as a representative of the UGK Foundation, would draw up proposals during his trip to Guatemala in March 2023. Now, in 2024, the projects are underway...
