The situation today

Since March 2023, the UGK Foundation has been inactive as a result of the problems caused by a corrupt justice system threatening FEDECOCAGUA's existence, Guatemala's largest coffee Federation. 9,950 members and their families, around 50,000 people in total, are affected by the crisis. They represent 65 cooperatives and work in all areas of the country where coffee is grown.

This is not a site with political content. Our wish is to show you that a company like Fedecocagua is not only important for its members, but for the country as a whole. These are the words of the new President, Bernardo Arévalo, in office since January 2024, on the second anniversary of the CNE business association: "You play a very important role in building a just and prosperous country. Today we are on the threshold of a new beginning. The new agenda includes the establishment of real competition, the protection of the environment, the transparent and effective development of infrastructure, the promotion of innovative and highly productive investments.

This has been Fedecocagua's agenda for more than fifty years, because it is precisely according to these principles that it helps small producers to increase their production and improve the quality of their product in order to meet the expectations of customers in the USA, Europe and Asia. As a volunteer director of the UGK Foundation, I have been visiting cooperatives throughout the country since 1998 and have seen their steady, impressive progress in all areas.

Despite the problems, we are carrying out some projects with STIFTUNG HAUS der action 365 in Germany and with PALS (Norway), who, as long-standing customers of Fedecocagua, continue to place their trust in us.
