The two visits take a few hours, which is not enough to visit some families and talk to people. But the walk through the village with Hortenico - the COCODE of the Mirador and vice-president of the Cooperativa Estrella Polar and above all the driving force behind this project - as well as what happens near the meeting room gives a first impression of how life is lived in this village.

Almost all the houses are made of boards, with a tin roof, often very rusty and with holes that allow water to enter. The floor is dirt. In the kitchens there are few wood-saving stoves with fireplaces and there is no drinking water. The sanitary services are at a certain distance from the houses, they are cesspools, without drainage. It is understood that the project of the UGK Foundation's water tanks in 2015 has helped families a lot. It is also understood that there are endless needs here.

Teachers teach classes in a small wooden building with a dirt floor. In case of health problems, the sick have to go to Nebaj to be treated. One of the reasons why the UGK Foundation became interested in the breach project was a talk with Hortenico who told how they took a woman with birth problems at night from the Mirador to the Polar Star, carrying her along parts of the path in their arms. It is seen that the presence of a nurse in the village or the existence of an elementary health center to help families with children who sometimes suffer from malnutrition are not enough.

When they invite guests for breakfast or lunch, they share what little they have with them, even slaughtering a chicken so they can offer meat. The women prepare a broth with vegetables and chicken, accompanied by the traditional tortilla. They work as a team - in a close-knit team, like spouses when they improve the gap.

As in all developing countries, in Guatemala, especially in the countryside, there are numerous children and adolescents, women and men. Know what your future will be. Know if they manage to prove their potential. As the UGK Foundation also provides scholarships, we know that this potential does exist. Therefore, one of our goals is to obtain more funds to promote young people with a desire to study, talent and... potential.
